Rose Gardens

The Rose Garden was planted in 1974 to commemorate a set of lectures Roy gave at the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York. Over the years it has gone through many changes but took its present form in 2003 when it was paved. The roses are repeating in various shades of pink underplanted with Sedum and Alchemilla Mollis. The central urn came from Julia’s aunt, Carola Oman. Four clipped standard beech lead on to a triumphal arch with the inscription in Latin ‘They who plant a garden, plant happiness’.
